Buy handmade ceramics María Monasterio

We are a small artisanal ceramics workshop based in Málaga. At María Monasterio Ceramic Studio, we specialize in crafting tableware and decorative pieces. Depending on the design, we use a variety of techniques, including the potter’s wheel, hand modeling, slab building, or molds.

Here, you can shop for ceramics online quickly and effortlessly. Our work blends traditional pottery methods with modern, artistic designs, ensuring that the everyday objects you use are not only functional but also visually stunning.

Our designs are deeply inspired by nature, reflected in shapes, textures, and colors that evoke its beauty.

Additionally, we offer tools for ceramists, designed based on our hands-on experience and addressing gaps we’ve noticed in the market. Our aim is to create high-quality, practical tools that simplify and enhance the work done in the studio.

  • Closed head tungsten carbide ceramic trimming tool. Tool with tungsten head and hand-turned wooden handle with brass ferrule. The closed shape with curves makes it easier to use on straight surfaces and leaves no marks. The wider curved area allows you to remove more clay at once and then use the flat part to make the piece smooth. Tungsten is a very good abrasion resistant material as it holds its edge much longer than conventional steel tools. Tired of the trimming tools wearing out after a few days of use, we decided to look for another solution and came across this material. After using them for a few months, they are still sharp. We are very happy with the result. The handle is made of various types of wood, but mainly olive wood. It is comfortable and simple. Tungsten is a hard but fragile material, so avoid drops and bumps, as they can break. Dimensions: 18x2cm and 3.9cm long head
  • L-shaped tungsten carbide ceramic trimming tool. Tool with tungsten head and hand-turned wooden handle with brass ferrule. The open L-shape is very convenient to use for both curved and straight shapes. Tungsten is a very good abrasion resistant material that holds its edge much longer than conventional steel tools. Tired of the trimming tools wearing out after a few days of use, we decided to look for another solution and came across this material. After using them for a few months in the workshop, they are still sharp. The handle is made of various types of wood, but mainly olive wood. It is comfortable and simple. Tungsten is a hard but fragile material, so it is necessary to avoid falls and blows, as they can break. Dimensions: 18x2cm and 2.5cm long head.

Tempered stainless steel blade for ceramics. Made in Spain by a master knife maker. A very practical tool, not only for cutting the clay but also for retouching and for scraping the glaze on the cutting edge and on the curved part at the back, depending on the shape of the piece. Although it is made of stainless steel, it is recommended to clean it after use, since clay and water in prolonged contact can end up oxidizing the steel. Dimensions: 16x1,3cm

    Time

    1.500,00  IVA incluido
This elongated, oval vessel adopts the form of a familiar, everyday object to speak about time through stillness. Its surface is entirely worked by hand with fine lines that run across the body like a record of repeated gestures, slow rhythm, and sustained attention. Each mark refers to a patient process: the collection of sediments, waiting, the construction of the form, and the careful carving of the surface. The small opening, finished in gold, gathers and emphasizes this journey, marking the end of the gesture and preserving the memory of manual labor. Time is not conceived as a functional piece. It is an object for contemplation, inviting resistance to immediacy and encouraging the viewer to slow down. A simple form that defends slow processes and reminds us that value lies not in speed, but in the trace that remains in matter. Features Mixed media: roll, gilding 21x38cm, recycled ceramic 1125º, gold leaf (23.75kt)
  • Accidental

    1.160,00  IVA incluido
This piece rests on a delicate balance: an open form supported by a minimal base, a thin wall that allows light to pass through, and a subtly gold-finished rim. Its presence is light yet steady, defined as much by what it reveals as by what it allows to be seen. The crack running through the piece emerged from an unforeseen accident. A small impact before firing caused an almost imperceptible fissure, which opened further during the kiln process. Rather than being corrected, this wound became part of the piece and ultimately defined it. Today, the form cannot be conceived without this opening. The crack reveals the fineness of the wall and disrupts the initial balance, incorporating chance as part of the process. The piece embraces error not as failure, but as transformation, reminding us that the unexpected also shapes identity. Features Mixed media: roll, gilding 21x25cm, recycled ceramic 1125º, gold leaf (23.75kt)
  • On purpose

    1.680,00  IVA incluido
On purpouse emerges in dialogue with the piece Accidental, created simultaneously and marked by an unexpected break. In contrast, this sculpture affirms intention and conscious decision within the making process. Its simple, elongated form is built with clarity and continuity. The body rises in a contained manner, concentrating into a solid gold termination that provides weight, closure, and presence. Here, the material responds, allowing the initial idea to be sustained and carried forward without deviation. On purpouse speaks of possible control, of the will to construct, and of choice in the face of chance. A solid, silent piece defined not by accident, but by what is made with intention.

  • Chawan II

    334,00  IVA incluido
The chawan is a traditional Japanese bowl associated with the tea ceremony, an intimate object meant to be held between the hands. In this piece, that ancestral form is preserved, but its function is transformed. The exterior, rough and unpolished, retains the trace of recycled material and manual gesture. In contrast, the interior is entirely covered in gold, turning the space meant to contain into an inaccessible one. The bowl no longer serves: it offers itself to the gaze. This chawan thus becomes a container of time and calm—a silent object that invites contemplation and questions the value of use, of the everyday, and of what we consider essential. Features Mixed media: pinching, gilding 11,5x8cm, recycled ceramics 1125º, gold leaf (copper)
  • Journey to Paris

    385,00  IVA incluido
This piece belongs to the early stages of the Renacidas project. Its rounded, slightly deformed shape retains a more spontaneous and playful character, visible in the use of polka dots as an intuitive gesture across the surface. It was first presented at the Maison & Objet fair in Paris. During that journey, the piece suffered a small damage and a crack appeared, the result of transport and handling. I chose to intervene by covering the wound with non-genuine gold leaf, a material used during this initial phase of the project. Rather than concealing the accident, the intervention integrates it into the body of the work and reinforces one of the core principles of Renacidas: to acknowledge the wound, accept it, and transform it into part of the piece’s identity. The work thus preserves the memory of its process, its journey, and the moment when the project was beginning to take shape. Features Mixed media: pinching, coils, gilding 17x15cm, recycled ceramics 1125º, gold leaf (copper)
  • Treasure II

    390,00  IVA incluido
Treasure II is part of a series of small trays conceived as tiny containers for treasures. Each one is unique and proposes an intimate space meant to hold what we consider valuable: a small object, a memory, an amulet. In some pieces, a dried flower appears—often a thistle, collected from the landscape where I grew up—referencing simplicity, nature, and what endures. The act of treasuring thus shifts from material value to symbolic meaning. The irregular, organic edge—reminiscent of a mountain range—and the small central figure designed to hold the treasure are decorated with gold leaf. This intervention highlights the beauty of what we keep, of what is minimal and essential. Features Mixed media: slab built, acrylic, gilding 23x16x3cm, recycled ceramics 1125º, acrylic, gold leaf (23.75kt)
  • Flowing Through Conversations

    450,00  IVA incluido
Flowing Through Conversations is a bowl created using the pinch technique—an intimate process that begins with a small ball of clay and slowly expands through the gentle pressure of the fingers, from the inside outward. The form emerges organically, without a fully predetermined outcome. The piece was born during a visit to the studio. While we were talking, I allowed my hands to work freely, following the unhurried rhythm of the conversation. Shared time, words, and silences became inscribed in the material. The rim, marked by cracks and openings of varying sizes, draws a small landscape shaped by erosion and time. After the first firing, the piece was left to rest and be observed until the place where the gold leaf should appear revealed itself—highlighting its irregularities and holding the viewer’s gaze. Features Mixed media: pinching, acrylic, gilding 17x6cm, recycled ceramics 1125º, acrylic, gold leaf (23.75kt)
