Pottery trimming tools
Tungsten pottery trimming tool. This ceramic tool has a tungsten head, a hand-turned wooden handle and a brass ferrule to join both parts.
It is used in the trimming of the pieces, depending on the shape of the piece and the preferences of each potter, you can choose between the open L-shape or the closed one. If you want a professional and durable tool, this is the best option.
Tungsten is a material of very good abrasion resistance and keeps its edge much longer than conventional steel tools. After several months of use, it remains sharp.
The handle is made of various types of wood, but mainly of olive wood. It is easy and comfortable to hold.
To use these tools it is always advisable to hold it by resting the index finger as close to the head as possible, on the ferrule itself.
Maintenance of the trimming tools:
Tungsten is a hard but fragile material, so avoid drops and knocks, as it can break.
Always leave it clean and dry after use to prolong its durability.
As for the wood, it is advisable to apply, from time to time, olive oil or other suitable material to moisturise it.
